The workshops give children and young people the unique opportunity to write their own songs, get a taste of the world of music production and acquire valuable performance skills. The aim is not only to foster the creative potential of young talent, but also to awaken its joy and passion for music.
The project
Sixteen selected school classes are currently working on their songs and developing their own works under the professional guidance of SUISA members. The workshops offer pupils exciting insights into songwriting, music production and performance. The highlight of the project is the live performance: The participating classes can present their song on the public stage on Barfüsserplatz in Basel and express their message in front of an audience.
Performance and premiere of the 16 songs:
Thursday, 15 May 2025, from 2pm to 5pm,
on the public stage on Barfüsserplatz in Basel as part of the ESC supporting programme.
This special moment will surely be a unique experience for the pupils and students and at the same time show the diversity and creativity of Swiss young music talent.
Selecting a topic
Each song should have a reference to the ESC slogan “United by Music”. The permanent slogan, introduced in 2023, emphasises the ESC’s core values: Music has the power to unite people around the globe, bridge differences and create a sense of community, regardless of nationality, language or background.
We are looking forward to seeing how the young songwriters will realise these themes in their songs and interpret them through music.
Objective and order of events
The project is aimed at pupils in grades 4 to 9 throughout Switzerland and promotes teamwork and community spirit while learning new skills in songwriting, playback production and choreography. After an initial kick-off meeting with a songwriter, the class will be working with their teacher to develop their own song idea, which is then submitted for revision. This is followed by an intensive songwriting workshop in which the lyrics and melody are finalised.
In the production workshop, a suitable playback is created together, which serves as the basis for the performance. In the weeks leading up to the performance, the students have time to rehearse their song and prepare a stage presentation before performing their work in Basel on 15 May 2025. The best three songs will be awarded a prize.
We are looking forward to creative songs, unforgettable moments and 16 school classes from all over Switzerland, from three language regions – united by music!
