For the first time in SUISA’s history, the Annual General Meeting will be held in a hybrid format. Members who cannot come to Bern will be able to attend and cast their votes online. However, members are encouraged to come to Bern if they can. The cooperative thrives on exchanges between its members and with the Board of Directors, the Management Board and SUISA employees. The GM will now take place on a Tuesday afternoon. After the GM, members can enjoy a drinks reception and buffet lunch, plus a live performance by Bernese singer Steff la Cheffe.
Another record result
SUISA has once again recorded record revenue for the 2023 financial year. The Group’s income has now exceeded the CHF 200 million mark (CHF 206.5 million). This brings total distributable income to a record CHF 173.5 million. The average cost deduction on settlements is 12.75%.
Rules and solutions for dealing with artificial intelligence
The new developments in music production will keep us busy over the coming years. Machines are now able to compose music independently with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). AI is a promising tool in the creative process, but it competes with creatives at the same time.
In addition, music-generating AI uses pre-existing works to train its algorithms. Legal clarity is needed with regard to the successful licensing of such uses of works and we also need copyright rules in relation to music produced by AI. Advancing with this will require international coordination because AI generators operate internationally. SUISA employees are networked at national and international levels through associations and umbrella organisations and are active when it comes to finding suitable solutions for the coexistence of human-made musical works and AI music productions.
