Are you a songwriter and want to learn or improve skills in the field of music production? Do you want to know how to work professionally as a music producer? SUISA offers six of its members or principals the chance to benefit from the know-how of professionals in a “learning by doing” mentoring programme.

This is how the mentoring programme for aspiring music producers works: Six SUISA members or principals will be accompanied by professionals in the production of one of their songs over the months leading up to the next M4music Festival. The mentees produce their track themselves, while the mentors support them with expertise and give them advice or answer questions in feedback sessions.

The song is scheduled to be produced by 22/23 March, 2024. On these days the M4music Festival takes place in Zurich. There, the SUISA panel will be on the topic of “Music Production Today” and will conclude the mentoring programme. The panel discussion will incorporate the experiences of mentors and mentees.

Applications for the mentoring programme

SUISA members and principals can now apply for the mentoring programme by sending in three demo songs, one of which will be produced together with a mentor by March 2024. The musical style of the submitted songs may include all expressions of contemporary pop. In order to benefit from this programme in the best possible way, applicants should have a solid musical knowledge and be open to criticism and exchange with the mentors.

Are you a songwriter or lyricist and do you think you meet the requirements in terms of musical craft and skills? Then send us your application, which should include the following:

  • 3 possible participation songs (mp3 files or internet links);
  • a short biography;
  • current contact details.

Applications should be sent to the following email address: communications (at) suisa (dot) ch
Deadline for applications is on: 30 November 2023
Important: Places are only awarded to SUISA members or principals via this application procedure.

Dates and selection of mentees

The selection of the songs and, consequently, of the mentees who can participate in the programme is made by the mentors. The producers will personally communicate confirmations or invitations and further information on taking part in the mentoring programme by 10 December 2023. Dates and the form of how feedback sessions will be held (video calls, meetings, etc.) are also agreed directly between mentees and mentors.

Messages of refusal will not be sent. Anyone who has not received a confirmation or invitation by 10 December 2023 has not been considered for participation in the mentoring programme of the SUISA.

Experience has shown that the number of applications is going to exceed the number of places available. It should be noted that the application does not create an entitlement to participation at any time. Furthermore, there will be no correspondence regarding the allocation of places.

The mentoring programme will be carried out once in connection with the SUISA panel at the M4music Festival 2024.
